SUMMARY:

Quinn Middle School is seeking a STEM Teacher. The STEM teacher will play a vital role within this elective program.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• develop lesson plans and deliver project-based instruction within established themes;
• collaborate with other teachers to design cohesive, cross-curricular experiences for students;
• actively use feedback and data to continuously develop and improve STEM electives;
• work with the core STE and mathematics curriculum team on common instructional goals and strategies;
• build an enthusiasm for STEM learning within the community; and
• proactively collaborate across grade levels from K-12 to secure a strong STEM pipeline within the Hudson Public Schools.

• Provide STEM instruction for students in grades 5-7.
• Develop integrated, cross-curricular projects that inspire students to create and innovate, take action and lead, and connect with their community.
• Mentor students’ introduction into STEM career pathways.
• Assess student progress towards objectives, expectations, and/or goals for the purpose of providing feedback to students, parents and administration.
• Differentiate classroom work for the purpose of providing students with instructional materials that address individualized learning within established lesson plans.
• Manage student behavior to provide a safe learning environment.
• Work with curriculum team on common instructional strategies and goals.
• Work with Principal and staff to support the instructional goals of the school.
• Develop ongoing communication systems for parents, students, and the community.
• Gather data for program evaluation purposes.
• Build enthusiasm for STEM learning within the community.
• Foster partnerships with community institutions.
• Cultivate a continuous and connected STEM experience from elementary to middle to high school.

Qualifications:

• Bachelors degree required
• appropriate DESE licensure
• Successful completion of Criminal Records Check (CORI), and fingerprints

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Hudson School Committee’s policy on evaluation or in accordance with union contract.

WORK YEAR:

• 10 months, 183 days
• 2 personal days, 12 sick days, prorated pursuant to date of hire
• This is a salaried position distributed over 26 paychecks including a lump sum in June to cover summer pay

While performing duties of this job, the employee may often remain in a stationary position for considerable periods of time. The employee will have ample periods of standing and may be required to traverse throughout the building. The employee must frequently use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and use hand strength to grasp tools. Frequently operates a computer and other office productivity machinery (i.e., calculator, copy machine, and computer printer). Physical abilities may also include lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling, stooping/crouching, reaching/handling, talking/hearing conversations, and near/far visual acuity/depth perception/color vision/field. Ability must be able to lift and/or push and pull 15 to 20lbs for short periods, and walk up and down stairs several times a day. The employee must be able to communicate effectively with students, staff members, and the public in person and on the telephone.
